Description
What Is It?
The Viva Cup is a reusable menstrual cup, around 8.5 cm long and made from soft medical grade silicone. It is worn internally a lot lower than a tampon but, while tampons and pads absorb menstrual fluid, the Viva Cup collects it. This means it doesn’t cause dryness or irritation, and also that it collects far more (three times as much as a ‘super-absorbent’ tampon’!). Because the Viva Cup is reusable, you only need one, so it saves you money and helps the environment, too.
The Viva Cup is designed to be folded and inserted into the vagina, then removed, rinsed and reinserted up to every 8 hours. A light seal is formed with your vaginal walls, allowing menstrual fluid to pass into the Viva Cup without leakage or odour. This seal is released for removal, allowing you to empty the contents, rinse or wipe and reinsert. Comfortable, convenient and safe: the Viva Cup can be used overnight and when travelling, swimming or exercising.
What Size Viva Cup is Right for Me?
The Viva Cup is available in two sizes: ‘M’ and ‘L’. Size M measures 40mm in diameter and 75mm in length. Size L measures 45 mm in diameter and 8.5mm in length. Both sizes have a pull stem 21mm long, which you can trim to the length that is right for you.
Sizing is based on pelvic floor tone, not menstrual flow, and it’s essential to get the sizing right to get the best from your Viva Cup. Pelvic floor tone will vary according to your age, childbearing history, and what sort of exercise you do. Corrective surgery to the vagina will also have implications. Check the guidelines to see which size you need:
Size L
Because vaginal and pelvic floor tones naturally reduce with age, the dimension ‘L’ is recommended for women aged 30 or over. The difference between the ‘M’ and the ‘L’ is only small (5mm), but it is crucial!
Size ‘A’ is also recommended for all women who have given birth vaginally, regardless of age.
Size M
They are designed for young girls and women under the age of 30 who have not given birth vaginally. It may also be suitable for women over the age of 30 who have had corrective surgery to the vagina, or who are advanced in tone-maintaining activities such as yoga, dance or pilates.
Eco-friendly
One woman will, on average use over 11,000 disposable sanitary products in a lifetime. The Viva Cup is reusable and offers a simple way to reduce the amount of waste you produce dramatically.
- 22 tampons or towels are used, on average, each period
- Their packaging, applicators and backing-strips will end up in landfill or the sea.
Healthier
The Viva Cup is made from soft medical grade silicone and is latex-free, hypoallergenic and contains no dyes, BPA free, phthalates, plastic, bleaches or toxins.
Because the Viva Cup is non-absorbent, it will not cause dryness and does not disrupt your body’s natural pH levels (35% of the fluid tampons absorb is natural moisture!).
The Viva Cup has measurement markings, enabling women to report menstrual blood loss to a doctor or gynaecologist accurately.
The Viva Cup does not contain any absorbency gels, additives or perfumes. Unlike some conventional cotton sanitary products, it is also free from pesticides and GM materials.
Tampons can cause dryness and leave fibres behind. The Viva Cup is designed to respect your natural balance.
Convenient
The Viva Cup holds at least three times as much fluid as the most super-absorbent tampon, giving longer-lasting protection on more massive days. And, because it is non-absorbent, it won’t cause dryness when your period is light.
Because there is no string, the Viva Cup is entirely discreet – and you only need one, so there’s no need to carry bulky spares or worry about disposal of used products or packaging.
Cheaper
One Viva Cup lasts for years and costs the same as the average woman will spend on disposable sanitary protection in three months.
Removal
We recommend you empty your Viva Cup every 4-8 hours. As with tampons, it’s essential to have clean hands when removing and to insert the Viva Cup. Then rinse your Viva Cup and reinsert.
Please always read the Usage Guide thoroughly before using your Viva Cup for the first time.
Whether you want to reduce your carbon footprint, save money or look after your health, there are many reasons to choose the Viva Cup.
